SOAR is thrilled to present our Second Annual Indigenous Speakers Series, starting with: Women Who Heal - featuring local Indigenous women leading change and healing our community. Join us at 6 PM on Saturday, February 24th at the Pueblo Rawlings Main Library. Indigenous women of the Pueblo community will join in conversation around the following topics:

  • What walking the Red Road means to them

  • Defining what healing is through an Indigenous lens

  • Which healing and wellness traditions do they practice

  • How the Indigenous ways of healing differ from mainstream practices

Our panelists are women who are mothers, activists, massage therapists, Aztec dancers, and practitioners of Curanderismo, or Mexican Traditional Medicine. This conversation matters to our community because many Chicana and Mixed-Indigenous women are now seeking to connect with their ancestral practices, especially when it comes to giving birth, taking care of our reproductive and mental health, and finding holistic modalities to heal from trauma. These local panelists will shed light on how they got in touch with their ancestral practices and how they remain embedded in their culture. They will share their unique practices and their healing services with their family and community. Just as there are hundreds of Native Nations across both sides of the border, so too are there hundreds of different ways to “Walk the Red Road.”

Trying to define what Indigenous Wellness or the Red Road is what inspired us to have this panel discussion! And we thought, what better way to explore these ideas than to hear from healers in our community who walk that walk every day? And it just so happened that all the healers we could think of were women. In this conversation, we will explore Women's unique role in Indigenous culture and how our feminine medicine heals our families, communities, and Mother Earth.

We would like to thank our grantor, Arts in Society, Pueblo Rawlings Library, for hosting our Speaker Series, and the Pueblo Latino Chamber of Commerce for their generous sponsorship of this event. We hope to see you all there, and stay tuned for our next Indigenous Speakers event in March!!
